Which protocol to connect to a drive on another remote pc via file explorer

Which protocol uses windows to connect to a drive of another remote pc via file explorer. for example: if you connect by typing
\192.145.23.25\c$\Temp

Does windows use smb or ftp or ssh else ?

Because to use FTP the file explorer needs to know the protocol which uses the prefix ftp://
By default a path which beginns with a double backsplash explorer uses SMB(445 TCP) to connect to the server
